Product Description
Bevin is a lightweight pullover that would work equally well at the beach or the office. The design features a deep v-neck and crisp branching cables running up the sides of the front and back.
In cotton or a cotton blend, it's the perfect sweater for spring and summer knitting. Also looks great in wool!
The sweater is constructed in pieces and then seamed together. The added stability of the seams will help it drape properly without any sagging. Close-fitting sleeves are worked flat and then seamed in place. Simple rolled edges at the hem, neckline, and sleeves of the sweater complement the casual, yet put-together look.

Craft and Difficulty Level
This is a knitting project classified as beginner-friendly, making it an excellent choice for knitters who have mastered basic techniques and are ready to tackle a wearable garment. The straightforward construction and accessible stitch patterns allow newer knitters to build confidence while creating a practical, everyday pullover.
Techniques and Stitches Used
The Bevin Pullover employs fundamental knitting techniques suitable for beginner-level crafters. The primary stitch used throughout the pattern is stockinette stitch, which creates the classic smooth, V-patterned fabric characteristic of many everyday sweaters. The pattern also incorporates several essential knitting techniques:
- Knit two together (k2tog) and purl two together (p2tog) for decreasing stitches and shaping the garment
- Right twist (RT) stitch for textural detail
- Cast on and bind off techniques for starting and finishing edges
- Stitch marker placement and management for tracking pattern repeats and shaping points
- Working with circular needles in the round or flat, depending on construction method
Gauge and Sizing
The pattern specifies a gauge of 20 stitches and 30 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) when working stockinette stitch on the larger needles. Achieving the correct gauge is essential for obtaining the proper finished measurements, and knitters are encouraged to swatch and adjust needle size if their gauge differs from the pattern specification.
Materials and Yarn
The Bevin Pullover is designed to be worked in Knit Picks CotLin DK yarn, a breathable blend composed of 70% cotton and 30% linen. This fiber combination creates a lightweight, durable fabric ideal for warm-weather wear. The yarn is classified as DK weight, a medium-light yarn that works at a moderate gauge. Yardage requirements range from 861 yards (7 skeins × 123 yards) for the smallest size to 1,599 yards (13 skeins × 123 yards) for the largest size, with the sample shown in the color Swan.
Needles and Notions
The pattern calls for two sizes of circular needles to accommodate ribbing and stockinette sections. Knitters will need US #5 [3.75 mm] circular needles measuring 20 inches or longer for ribbed sections, and US #6 [4.0 mm] circular needles of the same length for the main stockinette fabric. Alternatively, straight needles may be used. Additional notions include 4 stitch markers for tracking increases and pattern repeats, a stitch holder or waste yarn for securing stitches during construction, and a yarn needle for weaving in ends and seaming if necessary.
Pattern Format
The Bevin Pullover is provided as a downloadable PDF pattern, allowing crafters to access the complete instructions and any accompanying charts or schematics digitally.
