What Is Being Made

This is an embroidered diary cover design created by Anchor Studio, available as a downloadable PDF pattern. The design is intended to personalize and protect a baby diary with decorative needlework.

Techniques Used

The embroidery project combines two fundamental cross stitch techniques executed in sequence. The primary technique is cross stitch, which forms the main design elements. This is followed by backstitch, used for outlines and fine details that define and enhance the cross stitched areas. The pattern instructions emphasize working cross stitches first, then completing all backstitch work afterward to ensure proper layering and definition of the design.

Stitches Used

• Cross Stitch – The foundational stitch worked with 2 strands of embroidery thread, creating the colored squares that form the main design pattern
• Backstitch – Worked with 1 strand only, used for outlines and linear details to add definition and contrast to the cross stitched elements

Materials Required

Thread: Anchor Stranded Cotton in 8 colors (Colour numbers #23, #27, #103, #108, #254, #313, #885, and #1035), with 8 meters of each color provided. The stranded cotton is worked using 2 strands for cross stitch and 1 strand for backstitch outlines.

Fabric and Tools: One aida panel as the base fabric for the diary cover, a tapestry needle No. 24 with a blunt end (essential for cross stitch work), and one baby diary cover to which the embroidered panel will be attached.

Design Details

The pattern is classified as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for embroiderers with some experience in cross stitch techniques. The design chart uses a color-coded system where each colored square represents one cross stitch and each line represents one backstitch, allowing crafters to follow the pattern precisely.

All Anchor Stranded Cotton threads are produced in accordance with Oeko-tex standards, with tested pH values and dye lots that meet Global fastness standards, ensuring the finished embroidery remains vibrant and durable through washing and regular use.
