Sometimes a simple chevron pattern can become something fresh and new when viewed through a different lens. This cowl was born of a idle “what if?” moment. What if this traditional, zig-zag pattern wasn’t symmetrical? The modern lines of the Anouk Cowl are the result. Knitted in the round from the bottom up, it’s a quick weekend project with instant wardrobe appeal.
The sample is shown in Osprey by Quince & Co., shade Gingerbread. A suggested substitute yarn is shown below.

What is Being Made
The Anouk Cowl is a modern, asymmetrical neck cowl designed by Bristol Ivy. This knitted accessory features a fresh take on the traditional chevron pattern by removing its symmetry, creating contemporary lines that offer instant wardrobe appeal. The cowl is worked in the round from the bottom up, making it an ideal quick weekend knitting project. With finished measurements of 32 inches (76.85 cm) in circumference and 11 inches (30 cm) in depth, this cowl provides comfortable coverage for layering over everyday outfits.
Techniques Used
The Anouk Cowl employs several essential knitting techniques suited to intermediate-level knitters. Materials
- Yarn: Osprey by Quince & Co. (100% American wool; 170 yards [155 meters] per 100 grams). Two skeins in Gingerbread colorway are required. This is an aran-weight yarn, providing good stitch definition for the chevron pattern.
- Needles: One 24-inch circular needle in US size 10½ (6.5mm), or the size needed to obtain proper gauge
- Notions: One stitch marker for tracking pattern repeats and one tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Gauge: 17 stitches and 20 rounds equal 4 inches in the offset chevron pattern after blocking
