Product Description
Tegan is a simple pullover with rib detail on the shoulders. Great for advanced beginners, and fun to make for experienced knitters.
The pullover is worked seamlessly from top to bottom beginning with a provisional cast on for the shoulders, which are then shaped with short rows. The shoulders are worked in 2x2 rib with a row of eyelets. Once upper back and front are joined the lower body is worked straight in Stockinette stitch down to the I-cord hem. The skinny sleeves with short ribbed cuffs are worked in the round. Finally, stitches are picked up around the neck which is then finished with I-cord to match the hem.
Tegan Pullover by Justyna Lorkowska
What is Being Made
Tegan is a knitted pullover sweater designed by Justyna Lorkowska and published by Lete's Knits. This is a classic crew-neck pullover available in six sizes ranging from XS to XXL, with finished body measurements from 99 cm (39.5") to 147 cm (58.75"). The design is intended to be worn with positive ease, with the sample shown in size M featuring 16.5 cm (6.5") of positive ease at the bust for a comfortable, relaxed fit.
Craft and Primary Techniques
Tegan is created using the knitting craft. The pattern employs fundamental knitting techniques suitable for beginners, making this an accessible project for those new to sweater construction. The pullover construction utilizes standard shaping methods including increases and decreases to create the body shaping and armhole definition.
Stitches Used
The pattern incorporates essential knitting stitches and techniques:
- Knit stitch (k) - the foundational stitch used throughout the garment
- Purl stitch - used in combination with knit stitches for textural variation
- Knit 2 together (k2tog) - a right-leaning decrease used for shaping
- Make one left (m1L) - an increase worked by lifting the running strand between stitches from the front and knitting into the back of the loop
- Make one left purlwise (m1Lp) - a purl-based increase using the same principle
- Make one right (m1R) - an increase worked by lifting the running strand from the back and knitting into the front of the loop
- Make one right purlwise (m1Rp) - a purl-based increase variation
- Bind off (BO) - used to secure stitches at garment edges
- Cast on (CO) - used to establish the initial stitches
Materials and Tools
Tegan is worked in 4-ply yarn weight, a lightweight yarn that creates a refined drape and stitch definition. The pattern requires 3 to 6 skeins depending on size selected, with smaller sizes (XS, S, M) requiring 3 to 4 skeins and larger sizes (L, XL, XXL) requiring 5 to 6 skeins. The specified yarn is Zelazna W.
Essential tools for this project include double pointed needles (dpns) for working sections in the round, and stitch markers (m) to track pattern repeats and construction points. The use of double pointed needles indicates that portions of the garment, likely the neckline or cuffs, are worked in the round rather than flat.
Difficulty Level
Tegan is rated as a beginner difficulty pattern, making it an ideal choice for knitters developing their skills in garment construction. The straightforward stitch vocabulary and fundamental shaping techniques make this pullover accessible while still producing a polished, wearable result.
