Product Description
LOOP HOLE is an all-in-one piece sweater with enough ease to make it an everyday, go-to sweater. I have actually knit myself both a M size with the recommended (10”/24.5cm) positive ease, as well as a S size with 5”/13cm positive ease for a little more fitted look. You can also choose your length, the number of colors you want to use and whether you want a pullover or cardigan (there are 2 different patterns, but if you buy both, you will enjoy a 44% discount)! In any event, your LOOP HOLE will be a sweater that you enjoy knitting AND wearing.
Loop Hole Cardigan by VERSACIKNITS
What is Being Made
The Loop Hole is a knitted cardigan available in two length options: a shorter version and a longer version. This garment is designed as a buttoned cardigan with a fitted silhouette and positive ease at the bust. The pattern is offered in seven sizes ranging from XS to 3X, accommodating bust circumferences from 40 inches (101.5cm) to 64 inches (162.5cm). The finished garment features approximately 24.5 centimeters of positive ease at the bust, providing a comfortable, slightly relaxed fit.
Yarn and Materials
The Loop Hole cardigan is constructed using sport weight or heavy fingering weight yarn. The pattern is designed to work with Jill Draper Makes Stuff Mohonk Light yarn in a multi-color construction. The color work is divided strategically across the garment: 10% of the total yardage is used for trims in color A, while the remaining 90% is split evenly between colors A, B, C, and D (or fewer colors if preferred). The shorter version requires approximately 1375 to 2325 yards of yarn depending on size, while the longer version requires approximately 1675 to 3025 yards of yarn.
Needles and Notions
This pattern requires US size 4 and US size 5 needles (metric sizes 3.5mm and 3.75mm). Knitters will need both double-pointed needles and a 32-inch (80cm) or longer circular needle, or needles of the required size to obtain proper gauge. The cardigan is finished with buttons for closure.
Gauge and Sizing
The pattern specifies a gauge of 24 stitches and 32 rows per 4 inches (10cm) worked in stockinette stitch on the larger needle after blocking. Achieving proper gauge is essential for this project, as it directly affects the finished measurements and fit of the cardigan. The pattern provides finished circumference measurements for all seven sizes, with the shorter version ranging from 40 to 64 inches and the longer version offering extended length options for varied styling preferences.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
The Loop Hole cardigan is constructed primarily in stockinette stitch, the foundational knit fabric that creates a smooth, classic appearance. The pattern employs color work techniques to create visual interest, incorporating multiple yarn colors (A, B, C, and D) throughout the design. The use of both double-pointed needles and circular needles indicates that the cardigan is worked with a combination of flat and in-the-round knitting methods. The trim work, which comprises 10% of the yarn, is worked separately and applied to the cardigan edges, a technique that allows for precise finishing and professional presentation.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle more complex projects. The intermediate classification reflects the combination of techniques required: managing multiple colors, working with both flat and circular needles, maintaining consistent gauge across color changes, and executing proper finishing techniques including button placement and trim application.
