What is Being Made

The Fastest Cowl is a quick-to-knit cowl neck accessory designed to be completed in approximately one hour of knitting time, making it an ideal project for fall and winter wear. This pattern offers four size options: Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large, with finished circumferences ranging from 24 inches to 40 inches and heights between 9 and 10 inches.

Techniques Used

This intermediate-level knitting project employs fundamental cowl construction techniques. The pattern uses a long tail cast on to begin the project, followed by working in the round with a stitch marker placed at the start of round. The lace design is provided in both written and charted formats, allowing knitters to follow their preferred instruction method. The pattern incorporates knitting into the back of stitches (Ktbl) as a decorative element, combined with purl stitches to create textural interest. Finishing involves binding off in pattern while maintaining loose tension, followed by weaving in ends and blocking.

Knitting needles in US size 19 (15.00 mm) are required, with a gauge of 6.0 stitches over 4 inches. Cast on counts vary by size: 36 stitches for Small, 40 stitches for Medium, 48 stitches for Large, and 60 stitches for X-Large.
