Product Description
Amber the forest explorer loves nothing more than spending her whole day wandering the woods, searching for little treasures.
This pattern is written using US terminology but is easy to understand for those who use UK terms as the only different stitches are sc (dc in English terms) and hdc (htr). Amber takes 1-2 hours to make and measures 9cm tall when standing. It is fine to sell small numbers of finished items made from this pattern but please credit me (Woolly Wilderness) as the designer.
To make Amber you will need 13m of peach yarn, 5.7m of yellow yarn and 5.5m of green yarn, as well as some red embroidery thread and wool roving.
Amber the Forest Explorer Amigurumi Pattern
What is Being Made
Amber the Forest Explorer is a small crocheted amigurumi doll designed by Woolly Wilderness. This handmade toy stands 9cm tall and features a charming forest-themed character with peach-colored body parts, yellow accents, and green details. The finished doll is suitable as a decorative piece, collectible, or gift for craft enthusiasts and amigurumi lovers.
Crochet Techniques Used
This beginner-friendly pattern employs fundamental amigurumi construction techniques that are ideal for crocheters new to the craft. The pattern utilizes the magic ring method to begin rounds, which creates a tight center point—a hallmark of professional-looking amigurumi. Pieces are worked in continuous rounds and then assembled together to form the complete doll. The pattern incorporates increasing and decreasing stitches to shape the three-dimensional form, allowing the crocheter to create the rounded head, body, and limbs characteristic of amigurumi dolls. Additional embellishment techniques include felting, where wool roving is stabbed with a felting needle to create hair texture and detail on the finished piece.
Stitches Used
The pattern relies on essential crochet stitches that form the foundation of amigurumi work:
- Single Crochet (sc) — the primary stitch used throughout the pattern for building dense, sturdy fabric
- Half Double Crochet (hdc) — used for specific sections requiring slightly more height
- Chain (ch) — used to create foundation rows and stitch spaces
- Slip Stitch (slst) — used to join rounds and create seamless transitions
- Decrease (dec) — used to shape and reduce stitch counts for forming the doll's contours
Materials and Tools
To complete Amber the Forest Explorer, crocheters will need DK weight yarn in three colors: approximately 13 meters of peach yarn for the main body, 5.7 meters of yellow yarn for accents, and 5.5 meters of green yarn for additional details. A 3.0mm crochet hook is used to work with the DK yarn at a gauge of 1.5 inches. The pattern also calls for wool roving in peach and a felting needle to create the hair texture by stabbing and felting the wool directly onto the head of the finished doll. Standard finishing supplies such as yarn needle for weaving in ends and fiberfill stuffing (implied for amigurumi construction) are also needed.
