Alice Amigurumi Doll by Crochet Luxe
Project Overview
The Alice amigurumi doll is an intermediate-level crochet project designed by Crochet Luxe that creates a complete 55cm tall soft toy doll with accompanying accessories. This downloadable PDF pattern provides comprehensive instructions for constructing a charming handmade doll, including a hair cap, dress, shoes, and decorative flower headband. The project is ideal for crocheters with some experience who want to create a detailed, poseable fabric doll.
Main Doll Construction
What is Being Made: The primary component is a 55cm tall amigurumi doll—a three-dimensional stuffed crochet figure created using the traditional amigurumi technique of working in continuous spirals to form rounded, sculptural shapes.
Materials Required: Approximately 120g of DK weight yarn, a 3mm crochet hook, fiberfill or toy stuffing (40g), and 2 safety toy eyes for facial features. Optional embroidery yarn or thread may be used for additional face details.
Techniques and Stitches: The doll employs fundamental amigurumi construction methods, working primarily with single crochet stitches to build tight, firm fabric suitable for stuffed toys. Increases and decreases are used to shape the head, body, and limbs into three-dimensional forms. The pattern requires understanding of working in continuous rounds and shaping techniques essential to amigurumi.
Gauge and Sizing: The pattern specifies a gauge of 20 stitches across by 22 rows measuring 10cm x 10cm using the 3mm crochet hook, which directly impacts the final 55cm height of the completed doll.
Hair Cap Component
What is Being Made: A fitted cap structure that serves as the base for the doll's hair, providing a foundation for attachment of hair strands.
Materials Required: Approximately 15g of DK weight yarn and a 3mm crochet hook.
Techniques and Stitches: The hair cap uses the same gauge and hook size as the main doll (20 stitches x 22 rows = 10cm x 10cm), suggesting similar single crochet construction with shaping increases and decreases to create a fitted head covering.
Hair Styling
What is Being Made: Individual hair strands that attach to the completed hair cap to create the doll's hairstyle.
Materials Required: Approximately 20 strands of yarn, each 90cm in length, using yarn of the crafter's choice for color customization.
Techniques: Hair attachment typically involves threading prepared yarn strands through the cap structure and securing them to create a full, styled appearance.
Dress Component
What is Being Made: A fitted dress garment designed to dress the completed doll, featuring button closures and optional velcro or snap fasteners for easy dressing and undressing.
Materials Required: Approximately 45g of DK weight yarn, a 4mm crochet hook, 4 small buttons (optional), velcro or small snaps (optional), and 50cm of narrow ribbon for decoration or trim.
Techniques and Stitches: The dress employs a different gauge than the doll body (18 stitches x 19 rows = 10cm x 10cm using the 4mm hook), creating a slightly more open, drapable fabric suitable for garment construction. The pattern incorporates button placement and fastening options, suggesting shaping for a fitted silhouette.
Shoes Component
What is Being Made: Small crocheted shoes designed to fit the doll's feet, completing the dressed ensemble.
Materials Required: Approximately 10g of DK weight yarn and a 4mm crochet hook.
Techniques and Stitches: The shoes are worked using the same 4mm hook and gauge as the dress (18 stitches x 19 rows = 10cm x 10cm), employing basic amigurumi shaping techniques to create a three-dimensional foot covering with appropriate structure and fit.
Flower Headband Accessory
What is Being Made: A decorative headband adorned with crocheted flowers, serving as a charming finishing accessory for the completed doll.
Materials Required: Approximately 6g of DK
