The cardigan is designed to be worn with 25-35 cm / 10-14” of positive ease. The positive ease is already built into each size. Shown in size S.

Zeig Dich Cardigan by Iscula

What is Being Made

Zeig Dich is a versatile cardigan design created by independent designer Iscula. The garment features a simple, minimalist front paired with an elegant lace pattern on the back, making it suitable for both casual and formal occasions. This downloadable PDF pattern offers a complete cardigan project that balances simplicity with sophisticated detailing.

Construction Method

The cardigan is knit from the top down, beginning with an I-cord foundation. From this starting point, the back and two front pieces are picked up and knitted. The body is worked straight, with edges incorporated directly into the main knitting. After the body is complete, sleeve stitches are picked up and worked in the round, streamlining the construction process. This top-down approach means the cardigan is essentially finished once the final stitch is cast off, requiring only thread weaving to complete the project.

Stitches and Techniques Used

  • Stockinette stitch – used for the main body and front sections
  • Lace pattern – featured on the back for visual interest and elegance
  • I-cord – the foundation technique used to begin the cardigan
  • Short rows – employed as a special shaping technique
  • Circular knitting – used for sleeve construction worked in rounds
  • Picking up stitches – applied when beginning the back, fronts, and sleeves from existing edges

Yarn and Materials

Zeig Dich is designed for 4-ply yarn weight, a medium-weight yarn that provides excellent stitch definition for both the stockinette and lace sections. The pattern requires two sets of needles in different sizes: larger needles are used after blocking to achieve the specified gauges. Additional materials include 4 stitch markers, 2 removable markers, stitch holders or scrap yarn, and a tapestry needle for finishing.

Gauge

Two gauges are provided to ensure proper fit:

  • Stockinette stitch: 22 stitches x 36 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches) using larger needles after blocking
  • Lace pattern: 21 stitches x 36 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches) using larger needles after blocking

Blocking is essential to achieve these gauges and ensure the lace pattern opens properly.

Skill Level

Rated as intermediate difficulty, Zeig Dich is designed to be accessible even to more experienced beginners. While the pattern incorporates special techniques such as I-cord and short rows, the overall construction is straightforward enough that knitters new to these methods can successfully complete the project with careful attention to the instructions.
