Product Description
Light, airy, and wispy! Knit up these super simple lace socks for a cool summer look! This is a 7 stitch simple repeating lace stitch. I was inspired by Japanese lace stitch and my happily blooming anemones this spring. I love the wow factor of the finished stitch, but I enjoy how easy it was to work on these anywhere and anytime.

These socks include a gusset in the heel for high insteps and large heels. If you have a short heel and tend to get sloshie socks in the heel you may want to do less gusset rows, or eliminate the gusset all together and just work the heel.

Wisp Toe-Up Socks by Bits N Bobs Boutique
What Is Being Made
Wisp Toe-Up Socks are a pair of lightweight, airy summer socks designed for adult feet in multiple sizes. Created by designer Maria J Scott of Bits N Bobs Boutique, these socks feature an elegant lace pattern inspired by Japanese lace stitches and spring anemones. The design offers adjustable foot length to customize the fit for individual wearers, with finished measurements providing foot circumference options in sizes XS, S, M, L, and XL. The leg length is a standard 8.5 inches, while foot length can be adjusted during knitting to achieve the desired fit.
Techniques Used
These socks are constructed using the toe-up method, a popular knitting technique that begins at the toe and progresses toward the cuff. This approach allows knitters to try on the socks during construction and adjust the foot length precisely before binding off at the leg. The toe-up construction method is particularly valued for its flexibility in achieving custom fit. The pattern incorporates negative ease of 10% for each standard foot circumference, meaning the finished socks will be slightly smaller than the foot measurement to ensure a secure, non-slipping fit.
Stitches Used
The primary stitch pattern featured in Wisp Toe-Up Socks is a 7 stitch simple repeating lace stitch. This lace pattern is straightforward enough to work anywhere and anytime, making it accessible for intermediate-level knitters. The simplicity of the repeating motif allows the beautiful lace texture to develop without requiring complex stitch manipulations, while still delivering impressive visual impact in the finished socks. The lace construction creates the characteristic light and wispy appearance that defines this design.
Materials
The recommended yarn for Wisp Toe-Up Socks is Long Dog Yarn Bounce Sock in the colorway Macaroon, paired with a coordinating mini skein. This yarn is a 4-ply weight sock yarn composed of 80% superwash merino and 20% nylon, providing 439 yards per 4-ounce skein. The merino content offers softness and breathability ideal for summer wear, while the nylon adds durability and elasticity to maintain sock shape through repeated wear and washing. The superwash treatment ensures easy care and machine washability.
Knitting needles required include 1 set of US #1/2.25mm circular needles with a 3-inch needle length. Circular needles in this size are essential for working the small circumference of sock knitting while maintaining proper gauge. Knitters should verify their personal gauge matches the pattern specifications, as needle size may vary slightly depending on individual knitting tension.
