Product Description
Verse is a reversible cowl which is knitted using only knits and purls with a simple eyelet edging. As long as you weave in your ends carefully, there is no reason why both sides of the cowl can’t be worn. Two in one!
The cowl comes with two sizes. A long cowl (pictured) which can wrap twice around for extra warmth, or a short, tug over the head and go, cowl. Knitted in yarn weight yarn on 4.5mm (US 7) circular needles, Verse is perfect for a beginner stepping into the world of knitting in the round.
Matching hat can be purchased separately or as a set.

Knitting Techniques and Stitches
The Verse Cowl employs fundamental knitting techniques appropriate for intermediate crafters. The pattern incorporates essential stitch manipulations including knit stitches, purl stitches, yarn overs for creating decorative texture, and knit two together decreases for shaping. These techniques combine to create the pattern stitch that forms the cowl's distinctive visual interest. The design utilizes a repeating pattern structure worked in the round, requiring attention to stitch placement and pattern alignment throughout the project.
Materials and Tools
This project requires Aran weight yarn, a medium-weight category ideal for creating fabric with good drape and structure. The pattern is worked on 4.5mm / US 7 circular needles, which accommodate the in-the-round construction necessary for a seamless cowl. Additional supplies include one stitch marker for tracking pattern repeats and a yarn needle for weaving in ends. A row counter is optional but helpful for tracking progress through the pattern repeats. The sample shown was knitted in West Yorkshire Spinners Blue Faced Leicester Aran yarn in the shade Burnt Orange, requiring 3–4 balls depending on size selection.
Pattern Format and Publication Details
The Verse Cowl pattern is provided in downloadable PDF format with written instructions. Originally published in October 2014 in Let's Knit! Magazine, the pattern includes comprehensive abbreviations and sizing notations to guide knitters through both size options. Photography and design artwork accompany the written instructions to support pattern comprehension.
