Uni-Sweater with Round Yoke in BC Garn Semilla – Pattern No. 4013BC by Lene Holme Samsøe

This free downloadable PDF pattern by designer Lene Holme Samsøe, published by BC Garn as pattern number 4013BC, provides instructions for knitting a classic unisex pullover sweater featuring a decorative round yoke. The design is rated intermediate in difficulty and is worked in DK weight yarn using BC Garn Semilla, a natural, eco-conscious yarn. The sweater is available in four sizes — S, M, L, and XL — with finished chest measurements ranging from 100 cm to 126 cm and a total length of approximately 66 cm to 72 cm.

What Is Being Made

The pattern produces a unisex drop-shoulder pullover sweater with a round yoke construction and a ribbed neckline. The body features a clean, minimalist silhouette in a main colour, while the sleeves and neckline incorporate eye-catching striped rib detailing in contrasting colours. The finished sweater has a relaxed, everyday fit suitable for a wide range of wearers.

Materials Required

  • Yarn: BC Garn Semilla in five colourways:
    • ob101 light grey (Colour A) — 450 (500) 550 (600) g, used as the main body colour
    • ob01 off white (Colour B) — 100 g in all sizes, used in striped rib sections
    • ob114 navy (Colour C) — 50 (50) 100 (100) g, used in striped rib sections
    • ob132 light green (Colour D) — 50 g in all sizes, used in the yoke
    • ob115 orange (Colour E) — 50 g in all sizes, used in the yoke
  • Needles: Straight needles in sizes 3.5 mm and 4 mm; circular needles in sizes 3.5 mm and 4 mm in lengths of 40 cm, 60 cm, and 80 cm
  • Tension/Gauge: 22 stitches in stocking stitch = 10 cm using 4 mm needles

Construction Method

The sweater is worked in separate pieces — a back, front, and two sleeves — which are then seamed together during finishing. The body pieces begin on straight needles with a ribbed hem, then transition to circular needles for the upper sections. The round yoke is assembled by joining the body and sleeves on a circular needle and working upward with colourwork stripes to create the characteristic yoke shaping.

Techniques Used

  • Flat knitting on straight needles for the body and sleeve pieces
  • Circular knitting on circular needles for the yoke and neckband
  • Striped colourwork worked in the rib sections of the sleeves and neckband, alternating Colour C (navy) and Colour B (off white) in four-row/round repeats
  • Round yoke shaping with multi-colour stripe sequences incorporating all five colours
  • Seaming to close side seams, sleeve seams, and the small underarm seams
  • Folded neckband finishing — the ribbed neckband is folded halfway to the wrong side and stitched in place for a neat, double-thickness collar
  • Even decreasing within rows when transitioning between needle sizes and stitch counts

Stitches Used

  • Stocking stitch / stockinette (St st
