Product Description
(VF incluse)
What’s this: This is the Under the rainbow shawl created in partnership with Artfil Yarn.
Why should I make this: When Yana asked me to join her on the crazy adventure of creating a shawl pattern in 2 weeks how could I do anything but say yes? And now that you see the gorgeous rainbow inside the shawl, how could you do anything but create your own 2020 keepsake?
When will this get the most use: When you try to explain 2020 to your great grandchildren.
Who is it for: Everyone, really.
Where do I start: This pattern is rated Advanced beginner - you’ll need to know or be eager to learn the basic crochet stitches and colour changing. You will need 2x 100g of fingering weight yarn + 100g of gradient fingering weight yarn and a 3.75mm hook. Other notions: a yarn needle and some stitch markers.
Feedback is always welcome and I hope to see your projects!

Under the Rainbow Crochet Shawl by ACCROchet
Project Overview
The Under the Rainbow Crochet Shawl is a beginner-friendly crocheted accessory designed by ACCROchet. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a colorful triangular shawl that measures 66 inches (168 cm) across the width and reaches 20 inches (51 cm) at its highest point, with a mid-point height of 16 inches (41 cm). The shawl is an ideal project for crocheters new to the craft who want to create a vibrant, wearable piece.
Yarn and Materials
This shawl pattern calls for three distinct yarn colors to achieve its rainbow effect. Colors A and B each require one skein of Artfil BELLE, a premium blend consisting of 80% superwash merino wool and 20% nylon, with each skein providing 354 meters of yardage and weighing 100 grams. Color C uses one cake of Artfil Ombré, a 100% superwash merino wool yarn also offering 354 meters per 100-gram cake. The pattern specifies a 3.75 mm crochet hook for working with these 4-ply weight yarns. Additional notions include a yarn needle for weaving in ends and stitch markers for tracking pattern progression.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches
The Under the Rainbow Shawl employs fundamental crochet techniques suitable for beginners. The primary stitches used throughout the pattern include chain stitches (ch), double crochet (dc), extended single crochet (esc), and half-double crochet (hdc). These basic stitches are combined to create the shawl's structure, with increases worked across rows to expand the triangular shape. The pattern begins with a collar foundation chain and builds outward through systematic increases, making it an excellent introduction to shaping in crochet.
Gauge and Sizing
Proper gauge is essential for achieving the intended finished dimensions. The pattern specifies a gauge of 21 extended single crochet stitches by 14 rows equaling 4 inches (10 centimeters). Crocheters should work a gauge swatch in pattern and measure their work against this standard, adjusting hook size accordingly if needed to match the specified gauge. This ensures the completed shawl reaches its intended width and height measurements.
Pattern Structure
The shawl construction follows a systematic approach beginning with a foundation chain of four. Row 1 (right side) establishes the base by working 10 double crochet stitches into the fourth chain from the hook, creating 11 total stitches. Row 2 (wrong side) uses extended single crochet across all stitches. Row 3 incorporates increases by working two extended single crochet stitches in each stitch across, doubling the stitch count to 22. This increase pattern continues throughout the design to build the triangular shawl shape. Stitch markers are used to track pattern rows and maintain consistency across the expanding width.
