Product Description
This pattern can be found for free online at jessieathome dot com/pattern/tripet-a-happy-monster/
Tripet is a happy little three-legged monster that wants to play! He’s adorable and huggable and stands all on his own. Tripet brings joy and love wherever he goes. Use some Poly Pellets in his feet to help him stand, and then fill the rest of him with Poly Fil. You can even add more legs or arms, as they are all attached separately. Tripet is made in several pieces and then joined together. He’d be amazing in lots of other color combos as well, making him a great stash buster.
Tripet Crochet Toy Pattern by Jessie Rayot
What Is Being Made
Tripet is an intermediate-level crochet toy designed by Jessie Rayot. This cheerful monster stands 20 inches tall and is constructed as a three-dimensional stuffed amigurumi-style creature. The pattern is ideal for crafters looking to create a playful, huggable toy with personality and dimension.
Yarn and Materials
This project uses Red Heart Scrubby Smoothie yarn in an aran weight. The pattern requires 2 skeins of the primary body color and 1 skein each of 5 additional colors for details and features. Beyond yarn, you will need a US G/6 (4.0 mm) crochet hook, a yarn needle for finishing, removable stitch markers, straight pins for assembly, poly pellets for weighted stuffing, and poly fil for general filling.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches
The Tripet pattern employs fundamental crochet techniques suitable for intermediate skill levels. The primary construction method uses single crochet, which creates a dense, sturdy fabric ideal for stuffed toys. The pattern incorporates single crochet two together (sc2tog) for shaping and decreasing stitches to form the monster's contours and features.
Additional techniques include:
- Chain (ch) – used for foundation rows and creating openings
- Slip stitch (sl st) – employed for joining rounds and securing stitches
- Stitch markers and space management – removable stitch markers track your position within rounds, while the pattern uses spaces (sp) to indicate gaps or intentional openings in the fabric
The gauge is set at 18 stitches by 18 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) in single crochet, ensuring the finished toy reaches the intended 20-inch height and maintains proper density for stuffing.
Pattern Format and Features
This is a downloadable PDF pattern designed for digital convenience. The file includes a full-color front page with visual inspiration, followed by an ad-free, text-only pattern printed in black ink for easy reading. Additional photographs appear on the final pages for reference. The format allows you to print selectively—omitting the first or last pages if you wish to conserve ink while retaining the complete pattern instructions.
