Product Description

My Triangularity scarf is worked sideways with a simple stitch pattern of chains that form rows of triangles.

The scarf is crocheted in two sections and with rows crocheted on the diagonal forming an easy-to-wear shallow boomerang shape. You can drape it, tie it, wrap it, or fold it because this scarf has a very generous length.

Best of all, this is a one-skein worsted weight project so it crochets up really fast. I used one skein of Malabrigo Washted (worsted, 210 yards/100 grams) for my scarf. The Washted color I chose is “Aguas”, a tonally dyed teal color. I highly recommend a tonal yarn to add depth to the stitch pattern and show off the triangles. You can also use one skein of Malabrigo Rios (210 yards/100 grams) for this scarf.

Because you can easily crochet this scarf in an afternoon, it is great for gifting. One skein of Malabrigo Washted or Rios and one afternoon produces a beautiful scarf! Make one for yourself and make more for gifts.

Triangularity Crochet Scarf by CJ Brady Designs

What is Being Made

Triangularity is a crocheted scarf designed by CJ Brady Designs that showcases a distinctive geometric aesthetic. This intermediate-level project features a shallow boomerang shape created through sideways construction and diagonal row placement. The scarf is worked in two sections and offers generous length, making it versatile for multiple styling options including draping, tying, wrapping, or folding. The design emphasizes simplicity combined with visual impact, making it an ideal one-skein worsted weight project that can be completed in a single afternoon.

Techniques Used

The Triangularity scarf employs sideways construction as its primary technique, with rows crocheted on the diagonal to achieve the characteristic shallow boomerang silhouette. This approach differs from traditional top-to-bottom or bottom-to-top scarf construction, offering a unique drape and shape. The two-section construction method allows crafters to manage the project in manageable portions while maintaining the geometric integrity of the design. The diagonal row placement is fundamental to creating the scarf's distinctive shallow curve.

Stitches and Stitch Pattern

The stitch pattern relies on chains to form rows of triangles, creating a simple yet visually striking design. This chain-based pattern is described as very simple despite its distinctive appearance, making it accessible to intermediate crocheters. The repetitive triangle motif created by the chain stitches provides excellent stitch definition, particularly when worked in tonal yarns that add depth and dimension to the pattern.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

Triangularity is designed as a one-skein project using worsted weight yarn. The pattern was created using one skein of Malabrigo Washted, a worsted weight yarn with 210 yards per 100 grams. CJ Brady Designs recommends selecting a tonal yarn to maximize the visual impact of the triangle stitch pattern and showcase the geometric design elements. Tonal dyeing adds depth to the stitches, allowing the triangular formations to stand out clearly. The designer used Malabrigo Washted in the colorway "Aguas," a tonally dyed teal shade that demonstrates how color choice enhances pattern visibility.
