Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'round the ole Oak tree

So I like to crochet, I like to design, but have no clue what sort of yarn, what gauge, what other technical lingo is used. This is an own design.

I was trying to find a tree pattern and I couldn't find any that I really liked, so I just started my own. Once it was finished it was just begging me for a yellow ribbon, even though I wanted to make an apple tree! So I gave it a yellow ribbon and a miniature spring bird (see other pattern, using a skein of embroidery floss and hook size 1.5 mm) and it will look lovely in the window next to the front door.

Am I waiting for some one to come home?
