What Is Being Made

The Witch's Frog is a knitted decorative piece standing 6 inches (15cm) high, designed as a Halloween-themed decoration to welcome party guests. The pattern includes the frog figure itself and a complementary "Witch is home" sign that can be printed and attached to card. Please note: This pattern is explicitly designed for decoration only and is not suitable as a toy due to small parts.

Craft and Primary Technique

This project uses knitting as the primary craft method. The frog is constructed as a single integrated piece, with the body and head knitted together as one continuous unit. The design is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with some experience beyond the absolute beginner level.

Stitches Used

The pattern employs fundamental knitting stitches to create the frog's structure:

• Knit (K): The basic knit stitch forms the foundation of the fabric
• Purl (P): Purl stitches are used to create texture and shaping
• Stocking Stitch (Ss): Created by alternating knit and purl rows (knit one row, purl one row), this classic stitch provides a smooth, finished appearance to the frog
• Decreases (Tog): Knitting or purling the next 2 stitches together reduces stitch count to shape the frog's form
• Increases (Inc1): Knitting into both the front and back of the next stitch increases stitch count; the pattern specifically notes this method must be used to ensure accurate stitch counts throughout the project

Materials Required

This project uses DK weight yarn throughout, with less than 50g of green frog-colored yarn needed for the body, head, and main hat. The designer used Hayfield Bonus Grass as the yarn choice. Knitting is worked on 3mm needles. The pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF format containing 9 pages of instructions, including the "Witch is home" sign component that requires printing and card stock for completion.
