The sweater has set in sleeves and wide neck for an easy fit.
Both the sheep scene and the rabbit motif are worked following an easy chart using the block colour method and I have given tips and a link for anyone new to this.
I used King Cole dk cuddles for the sheep to make them nice and fluffy but any similar dk yarn would do. The faces and legs are embroidered on after finishing the knitting. I used three slip stitches for the face each going to a point at the nose. The legs are again slip stitches but I double the yarn to make them stand out more.
The rabbit face is also using slip stitches in dark brown.
These little sweaters are ideal for build a bears. My model is 15" Lil cub.
The Teddy Spring Sweater is a knitted garment designed to fit 15-inch teddy bears. This downloadable PDF pattern provides instructions for creating a charming spring sweater with a choice of two decorative motifs: a sheep scene or a rabbit design. The sweater features set-in sleeves and a wide neckline that allows for easy dressing of stuffed animals. With actual chest measurements of 16 inches and a center back length of 7 inches, this pattern is specifically sized for standard 15 to 16-inch teddy bears.
This intermediate-level knitting project employs several classic garment construction techniques. The pattern utilizes set-in sleeves, which are sewn into armholes for a fitted, professional appearance. The wide neckline design simplifies the dressing process for stuffed animals while maintaining a flattering fit. The sweater incorporates intarsia or stranded colorwork techniques for the motif work, as indicated by the instruction to use separate lengths of yarn at each side of the design area. This method allows for seamless integration of decorative patterns into the main fabric.
Yarn Weight: Double knit (DK) yarn is used throughout this project, offering a lightweight yet sturdy fabric suitable for small garments.
Sheep Sweater Yarn Requirements:
Rabbit Sweater Yarn Requirements:
Needles: The pattern requires two needle sizes: 3.25mm (US size 3) and 4mm (US size 6). The smaller needles are typically used for ribbing and edgings, while the larger needles are used for the main fabric.
Tension: The pattern specifies a tension of 24 stitches and 30 rows to 10 centimeters (4 inches) when working in stocking stitch using 4mm needles. Achieving correct tension is essential for proper fit on the 15-inch teddy bear.
