Product Description
Crochet your own Stay Home Stay Safe pendant. Choose a simple two colour contrast, or go all out with a rainbow version! A fantastic stashbuster, you need less than 2m of yarn for each letter. This free pattern includes written instructions for how to start the pendant, as well as a colour chart to follow. For more information on how to read crochet charts, check out my free intarsia crochet tutorial (https://www.lovecrafts.com/en-au/c/article/alphabet-cushions-pillows). If you prefer not to work the pattern in intarsia crochet, you could also make it using stranded crochet or tapestry crochet.
You will need 50g of Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran in the background colour, and small amounts of yarn for the contrast letters and fringe.
The pendant can easily be made smaller or larger by using different weight yarn, for a smaller pendant use double knit yarn or for a larger version use chunky yarn. For different sizes simply use the recommended hook size for the yarn that you are using.
Stay Home Stay Safe Pendant by Chloe Bailey
What Is Being Made
The Stay Home Stay Safe Pendant is a decorative crochet project designed by Chloe Bailey that allows crafters to create a personalized hanging pendant featuring letter work. This versatile design can be customized with either a simple two-colour contrast scheme or expanded into a vibrant rainbow version, making it suitable for various aesthetic preferences and skill levels.
Project Overview
This free downloadable crochet pattern is an excellent stashbuster project, requiring less than 2 meters of yarn for each individual letter. The pendant combines functional design with creative expression, offering makers the opportunity to use up leftover yarn while creating a meaningful decorative piece for the home.
Crochet Techniques
The pattern features multiple crochet techniques to achieve the letter work and design elements:
- Intarsia Crochet: The primary technique presented in the written instructions, allowing for color changes within rows to create the lettered design
- Stranded Crochet: An alternative method for crafters who prefer to carry yarn colors throughout the work rather than cutting and joining
- Tapestry Crochet: Another optional technique for creating the color-work pattern, ideal for those familiar with this method
The pattern includes a colour chart to guide crafters through the design, with a reference to a free intarsia crochet tutorial available for those learning this technique for the first time.
Stitches and Construction
While specific stitch details are referenced in the complete pattern instructions, the pendant is constructed using fundamental crochet stitches worked in rows or rounds to build the base shape. The letter work is created through strategic color placement using one of the three available techniques mentioned above.
Materials Required
Yarn: The pattern calls for 50g of Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran in a background colour (which provides 184 meters or 201 yards per 100 grams). Additional small amounts of yarn in contrasting colors are needed for the lettering and fringe details. The pattern accommodates multiple yarn weights, including aran, chunky, and dk weights, offering flexibility based on available materials.
Tools and Notions: Crafters will need a 5mm crochet hook, a tapestry needle for weaving in yarn ends, scissors, and an old knitting needle or piece of bamboo for hanging the finished pendant.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to explore color-work techniques. The intarsia, stranded, or tapestry crochet methods require some experience with managing multiple yarn colors, though the pattern's inclusion of a colour chart and reference materials helps support crafters through the process.
Pattern Format and Accessibility
The Stay Home Stay Safe Pendant is available as a free downloadable PDF, making it easily accessible for immediate use. The pattern includes both written instructions for starting the pendant and a visual colour chart, accommodating different learning preferences among crocheters.
