Product Description
Spindle Shawl uses a lovely open lace crochet stitch, and a bottom-up construction to create this cosy triangle shawl. The 2-row pattern is easy to memorize ,and the interesting edging adds a stylish twist and pop of colour. You can customize the size by simply adding more repeats.
The main body of the shawl uses a worsted weight cotton yarn. I love the heavy weight of cotton in shawls, it gives a wonderful drape, like a cosy hug, to wrap around your neck. You can use any worsted weight yarn of your choice to make this shawl. Gauge is not important, just make sure you use a hook size that suits your tension.
You can use 400 – 500m of any worsted weight (aran weight) for your main color, or yarn weight of your choice and matching hook.

The shawl is worked from the bottom up, featuring a simple yet beautiful design enhanced by an interesting contrast-color edging that adds a stylish visual pop.
Crochet Techniques and Construction
This pattern employs fundamental crochet techniques suitable for confident beginners. The main body utilizes an open lace pattern that creates an airy, elegant drape while remaining straightforward to execute. The pattern includes a crochet chart to guide stitch placement, making it accessible for visual learners. Only basic stitches are incorporated throughout the design, ensuring the project remains manageable for those new to crochet while still producing a polished, professional-looking finished piece.
Stitches Used
The Spindle Shawl relies on fundamental crochet stitches appropriate for an easy skill level. While the PDF specifies that only basic stitches are used, the exact stitch names are detailed within the pattern instructions and accompanying crochet chart provided in the downloadable file.
Materials and Yarn Requirements
The pattern is designed for aran weight yarn. The original sample pictured uses Stylecraft Monet – Water Lilies (colorway 3972) in aran weight, requiring 2 balls of this yarn (200 yards / 183 meters per ball; 50% acrylic, 50% cotton blend; 100 grams per ball). Additional yardage of approximately 80–100 grams of worsted weight or aran weight yarn in three contrast colors is needed for the decorative border edging.
The pattern is flexible regarding yarn choice: crafters may substitute 400–500 meters of any worsted weight or aran weight yarn for the main color, paired with a matching crochet hook size. A 6mm (US J/10) crochet hook is recommended for the original yarn specifications.
Finished Measurements
The completed shawl pictured in the pattern measures 72 inches (183 centimeters) long by 24 inches (61 centimeters) wide, creating a substantial triangular wrap suitable for layering and everyday wear.
