Speckled Stripes Infinity Scarf Knitting Pattern
What Is Being Made
The Speckled Stripes Infinity Scarf is a circular cowl-style scarf designed by Yay For Yarn. This downloadable knitting pattern creates a finished infinity scarf using a two-color yarn combination that produces a striped effect with speckled texture throughout the design. The pattern is suitable for knitters with intermediate-level skills.
Craft and Technique
This project uses knitting as the primary construction method. The pattern is worked in the round using circular knitting needles, though knitters can also employ the magic loop method if preferred. The design incorporates color work through the use of two coordinating yarn colors (Color A and Color B) that are worked together to create the distinctive speckled stripe pattern. The finished piece is designed to be worn as a continuous loop, eliminating the need for seaming.
Stitches and Stitch Pattern
The primary stitch used throughout this pattern is stockinette stitch, which creates a smooth, classic fabric with a uniform appearance. The gauge for this pattern is 8 stitches and 11 rows per 1 inch (2.54 cm) in stockinette stitch, which is essential for achieving the correct finished dimensions.
Yarn and Materials
This pattern requires approximately 293 yards of #1 Fingering weight yarn in Color A and approximately 293 yards of #1 Fingering weight yarn in Color B, for a total yardage of about 586 yards. The designer used KnitPicks Stroll Fingering yarn (which provides 462 yards per 100 gram skein), requiring one skein in each of two colorways. The original pattern featured limited edition KnitPicks Stroll colorways in Grape and Grape Speckle, though these are no longer available. Knitters can substitute any two different colorways of KnitPicks Stroll or any other #1 Fingering weight yarn of their choice.
Additional materials needed include:
- US Size 2 / 2.75 mm Circular Knitting Needle, 16 inches long (alternatively, a longer circular needle can be used with the magic loop method)
- Scissors
- Ruler or measuring tape for checking gauge and finished measurements
- Yarn needle or blunt tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Two lengths of waste yarn, at least 18 inches long, for stitch holders
- Small, ring-style stitch marker for tracking rounds
Difficulty Level and Pattern Format
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters who have mastered basic knitting techniques and are ready to work with circular needles and two-color yarn work. The pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF, with a printer-friendly version available on pages 8-12 of the document. A full video tutorial is also available to guide knitters through the construction process.
