Snowman Bottle Topper by Phoenixknits
What Is Being Made
This is a free knitted Christmas pattern designed by Phoenixknits that creates a festive snowman-shaped bottle topper. The finished piece is designed to fit almost any bottle top, from wine and spirits bottles to cordials and pop bottles, making it a versatile holiday table decoration. The snowman bottle topper would also serve as a charming addition to a Christmas gift of wine or other bottled beverages.
Craft and Techniques
This project is a knitting pattern classified at an intermediate difficulty level. The pattern uses fundamental knitting techniques including increases and basic shaping to construct the three-dimensional snowman form. The designer specifically notes that the inc1 (increase 1) method must be used consistently throughout the pattern, as other increasing methods will result in an incorrect stitch count.
When finishing the piece, the designer recommends using mattress stitch (also called ladder stitch) as the preferred seaming method for joining pieces together. This technique creates an invisible seam that is ideal for creating a polished, professional appearance on the completed bottle topper.
Stitches Used
- Cast on - Foundation stitches to begin the project
- Knit (k) - Basic knit stitch
- Purl (p) - Basic purl stitch
- Inc1 (increase 1) - Stitch increase method used throughout for shaping
- Mattress stitch - Seaming technique for finishing

This pattern uses DK weight yarn or equivalent in multiple colors:

- Red - less than 5g
- Grey - less than 10g
