Sakura Cabled Mandala Crochet Cushion Pattern
Project Overview
The Sakura Cabled Mandala is an original crochet design by LillaBjörnCrochet (designer Tatsiana Kupryianchyk) that creates beautiful mandala-style cushions. This intermediate-level pattern offers flexibility in construction, allowing crafters to work with either a two-colored or one-colored design approach depending on their preference and available materials.
What You'll Create
This pattern produces decorative cushion covers featuring intricate mandala designs. The design showcases cable work and mandala shaping techniques typical of contemporary crochet home décor projects. The pattern supports customization through color selection, making it suitable for various interior design schemes and personal aesthetic preferences.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches
The Sakura Cabled Mandala employs cable stitching as a primary technique, which creates the textured, dimensional appearance characteristic of mandala designs. Cable work in crochet involves crossing stitches over one another to produce raised, rope-like patterns that add visual interest and complexity to the finished piece. The pattern uses standard crochet abbreviations in US terminology, allowing for clear stitch instructions throughout the project.
Yarn and Materials
This pattern is designed for DK weight yarn, specifically a 4-ply texture. The original design was created using SoftFun yarn by Scheepjes, which comes in 50-gram skeins (1.76 ounces) with approximately 140 meters or 153 yards per skein.
For two-colored mandala designs:
- Yarn A: 1 skein
- Yarn B: 3.2 skeins
- Total: approximately 4.2 skeins of DK weight yarn
For one-colored mandala designs:
- 4 skeins of DK weight yarn in a single color
Optional embellishment: Approximately 120 grams (2.5 skeins) of yarn for creating 24 pompoms, which can be used to add decorative finishing touches to the cushion.
The pattern accommodates various color combinations, with specific Scheepjes SoftFun color numbers provided as examples: Mandala 1 uses colors 2510 and 2625, while Mandala 2 features colors 2622 and 2530. However, any DK weight yarn in desired colors can be substituted to match individual preferences.
Pattern Details and Skill Level
Classified as an intermediate difficulty pattern, the Sakura Cabled Mandala requires prior crochet experience, particularly with cable techniques and working in the round to create mandala shapes. The pattern is presented as a downloadable PDF format, making it accessible for immediate use once purchased.
