What Is Being Made

Rosy is a lightweight knit top designed as a versatile layering piece perfect for chilly summer days or early autumn transitions. The garment is available in seven sizes ranging from XS to 3XL, with bust circumferences from 29 inches (74 cm) to 53 inches (135 cm). The finished length measures approximately 22.5 inches (57 cm) from the mid-saddle point, making it a cropped or standard-length top depending on the wearer's proportions.

Design and Striping

The defining feature of Rosy is its striped colorwork, which adds visual interest and makes the knitting process engaging. Knitters have the flexibility to work random stripes in their chosen colors or follow the specific striping pattern that designer Dieuwke Schack-Mulligen created for the size M prototype. This design choice allows for both creative expression and structured guidance, making the pattern accessible to knitters of varying experience levels.

Yarn and Materials

Rosy is designed to be worked in fingering weight yarn (4-ply), offering flexibility in fiber content and characteristics. The original prototype was created using two distinct yarns: The Uncommon Thread BFL Sock in the colorway Charred for the main color, and Knitter's Kitchen BFL/sparkle handspun in the colorway Rosy OOAK for the contrasting color. Both yarns are approximately 400 meters per 100 grams, though the exact yardage varies slightly by yarn.

The designer notes that yarn choice significantly impacts the garment's performance. When worked in a light cotton blend, Rosy remains breathable and maintains a summery aesthetic while providing an extra layer of warmth. Alternatively, when knitted in an alpaca blend, the garment delivers increased warmth and coziness. For each color, knitters should plan to use approximately half of the total yarn required for their chosen size.
