Product Description
Decorate your kitchen with the Rocket Ship Potholder! Hurtling through space, this rocket ship is on its way to explore the universe!
I designed this pattern in honor of my three-year-old son, who loves space. The very first gift he chose for me was a stuffed rocket ship, which I adore and modeled this design on.
Double knit, the potholder is reversible, with opposite colors on the reverse side. Use color changing yarn for interesting color combinations or solid yarn for a more classic look.
Instructions are included for the double knitting technique. The finished size is approximately 7 inches by 7 inches (17.8 cm by 17.8 cm). The color work design is chart only, not written instructions.
Disclaimer: This pattern is for creating a decoration only. The knitted item might not protect you from hot items. Please use caution.
Required yarn: 50 yards (45.7 m) each of two colors of worsted weight yarn
Worked on size 5 US (3.75 mm) needles.

What is Being Made
The Rocket Ship Potholder is a decorative kitchen accessory designed to add space-themed flair to your home. This knitted potholder features a rocket ship motif and measures approximately 7 inches by 7 inches (17.8 cm by 17.8 cm). The design is created using the double knit technique, making it reversible with opposite colors displayed on each side. This downloadable PDF pattern is intended as a decoration and is not recommended as functional protection from hot items, as certain yarn types may melt upon contact with heat.
Techniques Used
The primary technique featured in this pattern is double knitting, a method that creates a reversible fabric with contrasting colors on each side. The pattern includes full instructions for mastering the double knitting technique, making it suitable for knitters with intermediate skill levels who want to expand their technical repertoire. Double knitting allows crafters to create visually interesting pieces where the reverse side displays a completely different color arrangement than the front, adding versatility and visual interest to the finished potholder.
Stitches and Construction
While specific stitch abbreviations are not detailed in the provided pattern excerpt, the double knit construction relies on fundamental knitting stitches executed in a specialized manner to create the reversible effect. The pattern accommodates different yarn choices, allowing knitters to use either color-changing yarn for interesting color combinations or solid yarn for a more classic look.
Materials Required
- Needles: Size 5 US (3.75 mm) needles for main knitting; Size 4 US (3.5 mm) needles optional for a neater cast-on edge
