Product Description
This beautiful everyday sweater is worked seamlessly from top down. As the name suggests, the sweater is reversible and you can choose whether to wear the stockinette side or reverse stockinette side facing out. The sweater is worked as a regular stockinette sweater. The neckband is folded and looks identical on both sides.
The work begins with the folded neckband, followed by short row shaping on neckline to ensure a comfortable fit. After the raglan increases are complete, the sleeve stitches are placed on hold and the body is worked toward the hem, adding a slight A-shaping. The sleeve stitches are then placed on the needles again and worked in the round toward the cuffs. The pattern includes photo tutorials for German short rows and the folded neckband.
The sweater is designed to be worn with approximately 5”/ 12.5 cm of positive ease on bust. Shown in size S.
GAUGE: 22 sts and 32 rnds in St st using larger needles and yarn held double. Washed and blocked = 4” / 10 cm
Reversible Raglan Sweater by SuviKnits
What is Being Made
The Reversible Raglan is a seamlessly constructed everyday sweater designed to be worn on either side. This innovative garment features a stockinette base that can display either the smooth stockinette side or the textured reverse stockinette side facing outward, offering two distinct looks from a single finished piece. The sweater is shaped with raglan construction and includes subtle A-line shaping through the body for a flattering fit.
Construction Method
This sweater is worked seamlessly from the top down using circular needles, beginning with a folded neckband that appears identical on both sides of the fabric. Short row shaping is incorporated at the neckline to ensure a comfortable and well-fitted neck opening. The raglan increases are worked to create the characteristic diagonal lines from the neckline to the underarms. Once the raglan shaping is complete, the sleeve stitches are placed on hold while the body is worked downward toward the hem with gentle A-line shaping for a refined silhouette. The sleeves are then returned to the needles and worked in the round toward the cuffs, completing the garment seamlessly.
Techniques Used
- Top-down seamless construction
- Raglan shaping with increases
- Short row shaping for neckline comfort
- Marled yarn effect created by holding two strands together
- Folded neckband with reversible appearance
- A-line body shaping
- Working in the round with circular needles
- Stitch placement and holding stitches for multi-section construction
Stitches and Stitch Patterns
The primary stitch throughout the sweater is stockinette stitch, which creates the smooth, reversible fabric that can be worn with either side facing outward. The neckband and ribbed edges are worked using ribbing stitches, which provide elasticity and structure. These ribbed sections are created by holding together two strands of the main color yarn to achieve the desired fabric weight and appearance. The ribbed edges maintain their definition on both sides of the finished garment.
Yarn and Materials
This pattern is designed for lace weight yarn, which creates a delicate, refined fabric suitable for an everyday sweater. The construction technique involves holding yarn strands in two different ways: the raglan section and ribbed edges are worked by holding together two strands of the main color, while the remainder of the sweater body and sleeves are worked by holding one strand of main color together with one strand of contrasting color. This two-strand technique in the body creates a beautiful marled effect, adding visual interest and texture to the finished garment while maintaining the reversible quality.
Pattern Support and Resources
The downloadable PDF pattern includes photo tutorials for German Pattern abbreviations, providing helpful visual guidance for knitters working through the instructions. These tutorials support knitters in understanding and executing the pattern techniques accurately.
Skill Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with some experience. The combination of seamless top-down construction, raglan shaping, short row techniques, and the marled yarn effect requires solid foundational knitting skills and familiarity with working in the round.
