Product Description
I LOVE a Rainy Day… I’m 100% a Pluviophile!
I love that smell, petrichor, when the first drops of rain, hits the ground after a hot day, and I love how the rain makes everything change colours into muted shades and how it seems to slow things down… sigh.
Rainy Dayz is suited for Adventurous Beginners; however, you will need to have a basic understanding of crochet stitches and terminology.
With a mixture of filet stitches, 3D texture and an enchanting rainbow and cloud border, it creates such a magnificent effect, you’d almost feel the raindrops on you!
This 15-page crochet pattern contains a detailed description of how to create this precipitation influenced blanket; with a list of necessary materials, step-by-step instructions and photos to help along the way, there are also print friendly charts and tables which make things easier to follow!
This blanket was inspired by MY love of the rain, and would make a fabulous gift or just to add to your own collection.
Rainy Dayz Crochet Blanket by BlueBuggs
Project Overview
Rainy Dayz is an intermediate-level crochet blanket designed by BlueBuggs and inspired by the designer's love of rainy days and the sensory experience of rainfall. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a finished blanket suitable as a gift or personal collection piece, with a design philosophy centered on the calming aesthetic of rain and muted color palettes.
What Is Being Made
This project produces a crochet blanket featuring a multicolored border design. The blanket incorporates a main body section worked in a neutral silver tone, complemented by a decorative seven-color border. The border utilizes seven distinct colors: Red, Yellow, Pink, Green, Purple, Orange, and Blue, creating visual interest while maintaining the rain-inspired aesthetic of muted tones.
Yarn Materials and Weight
Rainy Dayz is designed for DK weight yarn, also referred to as 8ply or Light Weight yarn. The pattern requires approximately 1350 meters of yarn in total:
- Main body and edge: Approximately 1122 meters of 8ply yarn in the primary color (the designer used Birch Classique in Silver, requiring 6 balls at approximately 225m per ball, or 450m per section depending on construction)
- Edging: Approximately 122 meters of 8ply yarn
- Border: Approximately 45 meters each of seven 8ply colors (Red, Yellow, Pink, Green, Purple, Orange, and Blue)
The pattern is flexible regarding yarn choice; while Birch Classique 8ply is specified as the designer's selection, any 8ply, DK weight, or Light Weight yarn will work effectively with the pattern. Crafters using different yarn weights should adjust their hook size accordingly to achieve proper gauge and fabric drape.
Tools and Notions
The following tools are required to complete this project:
- Crochet hook: 4mm hook (size may be adjusted based on yarn weight and desired gauge)
- Sewing needle: For weaving in yarn ends and finishing
- Stitch markers: 4 stitch markers to track pattern repeats and construction points
Crochet Techniques and Stitches
While the specific stitch abbreviations are not detailed in the provided pattern excerpt, Rainy Dayz employs standard intermediate-level crochet techniques appropriate for blanket construction. The pattern involves working a main body section followed by a structured seven-color border, indicating the use of foundational stitches combined with color-work techniques. The intermediate difficulty level suggests the pattern includes techniques such as stitch counting, color changes, and possibly shaping or pattern repeats that require attention to detail and established crochet fundamentals.
Pattern Structure
The blanket is constructed with a clear separation between the main body and the decorative border. The border comprises seven distinct color sections, each measuring approximately 45 meters of yarn. This structured approach allows crafters to work the neutral main section before transitioning to the colorful border, making the project visually engaging and manageable in distinct phases.
Finished Project Characteristics
The completed Rainy Dayz blanket combines a calming, neutral silver main body with a vibrant seven-color border that celebrates the full spectrum of colors associated with rainy weather and rainbows. The design balances the muted, soothing aesthetic that inspired the pattern with pops of color, making it suitable for various interior styles and as a meaningful handmade gift for pluviophiles or anyone who appreciates thoughtful, crafted home goods.
