I've made Playing Puppy using a super chunky #6 weight plush yarn. This is ideal for a big soft and huggable toy and is a pretty quick make. He is 11 inches long (when made with recommended materials).
The pattern uses UK terminology (US terminology is also available as a separate listing) and can be downloaded after purchase. It is clear to follow with detailed instructions and lots of pictures for step by step making and assembly. The pattern also includes an adjustment for making your puppy using a non-plush yarn. The following stitches/techniques are used in this pattern: magic ring or chain 2 to start, slip stitch, double crochet, increase, decrease (dc2tog), back loop only
