The Pine and Cones Blanket features an all-over diamond lace pattern with a bottom border of pine and cones lace. Sides and top border are knitted in garter stitch.
The blanket uses basic lace stitches to form a pine tree pattern at the bottom edge and diamonds for the main part of the blanket. The cones are knitted using a traditional Estonian stitch called Nupp, similar to a bobble. This blanket is full of Nupps, which I used to give more texture to my chunky lace blanket. So, why not learn a new stitch?
The Pine And Cones Blanket is a knitted throw blanket featuring an artistic all-over diamond lace pattern with a decorative bottom border showcasing pine tree and cone motifs. The design combines delicate lace work with textural elements, creating a visually striking piece suitable for both functional warmth and decorative display. The blanket's construction includes a garter stitch border on the sides and top, framing the intricate lace center.
This intermediate-level knitting project employs several key techniques to achieve its distinctive appearance. The blanket features basic lace stitches that form pine tree patterns along the bottom edge, while the main body showcases diamond lace formations throughout. A traditional Estonian stitch technique called Nupp is prominently featured—this stitch functions similarly to a bobble and creates dimensional texture across the blanket. The designer incorporated multiple Nupps throughout the design to enhance the textural quality of the chunky lace blanket. Garter stitch borders frame the lace sections, providing structural definition and a finished appearance.
The Pine And Cones Blanket is designed for super chunky yarn weight, making it an accessible project for those new to lace knitting despite its intermediate skill level. The chunky yarn allows stitches to be easily visible and manipulated, while still creating dramatic lace effects. The pattern requires appropriate knitting needles sized to work with super chunky yarn, though specific needle size recommendations are referenced in the complete pattern documentation.
