This modern interpretation captures the elegance of the original Pickadilly design, which became so popular and profitable that it influenced the naming of the iconic Piccadilly area in London. The finished collar is a one-size design suitable for adding a sophisticated vintage-inspired detail to contemporary garments.

Techniques and Construction

This intermediate-level knitting project employs fundamental knitting techniques to create a decorative collar piece. The design utilizes stocking stitch as the primary fabric structure, which creates a smooth, classic knit surface ideal for showcasing the luxurious yarn. The collar features scalloped edges, a hallmark of authentic Pickadilly design, requiring careful shaping and finishing. The construction incorporates ribbon detailing with both satin and organza ribbons sewn into the finished piece, adding texture and visual interest while maintaining the historical aesthetic. Each 50g skein yields approximately 67.5 meters. You will need 2 skeins to complete the collar. Additional materials include a pair of 5mm needles for knitting with the DK-weight yarn, approximately 1.3 meters of 1cm wide satin ribbon, and approximately 1.3 meters of 1cm wide organza ribbon for embellishment.
