Phalanges Knitted Socks by Clare Devine
What is Being Made
Phalanges is a knitted sock pattern designed by independent designer Clare Devine. This downloadable PDF provides complete instructions for creating a pair of socks using fundamental knitting techniques. The pattern is specifically crafted for knitters of all skill levels, making it an excellent choice for those new to sock construction as well as experienced crafters seeking a straightforward project.
Craft and Primary Technique
This project uses knitting as both the primary craft and overall technique. Knitting involves interlocking loops of yarn using two needles to create fabric. For sock construction, knitters typically work in the round using circular needles or double-pointed needles, which allows for seamless construction and the creation of tubular fabric that conforms perfectly to the foot and leg.
Yarn Weight and Materials
Phalanges is designed to be worked with 4-ply yarn, a lightweight yarn weight that creates a smooth, refined fabric ideal for socks. Four-ply yarn provides excellent stitch definition and produces socks with a comfortable, non-bulky fit. The pattern will require appropriate knitting needles sized to work with 4-ply yarn, allowing knitters to achieve proper gauge and fabric consistency.
Difficulty Level
Rated as a beginner difficulty project, Phalanges is accessible to knitters who are new to sock making. The pattern is structured to introduce sock construction fundamentals without overwhelming complexity, making it an ideal stepping stone for those transitioning from flat projects to three-dimensional sock architecture.
