Product Description

Ooh la la is worked seamlessly from the top down. The back is worked in plain Stockinette stitch while the front features a lace pattern panel at the center. Knitting starts with the cast on of the shoulders for the back. Once the short row shaped shoulder slope is done, the back is worked flat to underarm. Shoulder stitches are picked up to work the front to the same length. At the underarm both front and back are joined to work the body top down in rounds to the bottom hem. Sleeve stitches are picked up around the arm openings to work the sleeves (short or long) top down in rounds. Neck finishing is worked last.

Ooh la la Sweater by Isabell Kraemer

What is Being Made

Ooh la la is a handknit sweater design available in both short sleeve and long sleeve versions. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a fitted pullover sweater suitable for various sizes, with yardage requirements ranging from 782 yards for the smallest short sleeve version up to 1,548 yards for the largest long sleeve option.

Knitting Techniques Used

This pattern employs several key knitting techniques to create its finished design. Double stitch resolution is a featured technique, where knitters treat double stitches as single stitches by knitting through both legs of the double stitch (kDS) on right-side rows or purling through both legs (pDS) on wrong-side rows. The pattern utilizes long tail cast on and cable cast on methods for establishing stitches at the garment's foundation, providing flexibility in cast-on approach based on knitter preference.

Stitches and Stitch Work

The pattern incorporates double stitches as a primary stitch element, which are worked throughout the garment construction. These double stitches create texture and visual interest in the finished sweater while requiring careful attention to proper stitch resolution during knitting.

Yarn and Materials

Ooh la la is designed for 4-ply yarn weight, offering excellent stitch definition. The pattern is shown in two colorway options: Louise Robert Design Super Sock in Madder (437 yards/400 m per 100g) and Holst Supersoft in Silver grey (314 yards/287 m per 50g). Knitters will need appropriate knitting needles suitable for 4-ply yarn to achieve proper gauge and fabric drape.
