Newborn Square Hat

Item: This item is a downloadable PDF file containing the pattern to knit a really cute, chunky square hat for a new baby. The hat is knit in basketweave stitch. You can choose the length of the tassels - keep them short for every day wear. Longer tassels might be cute for a photo prop type hat.

Size: Newborn.

Yarn required: 50g light super chunky yarn. An example would be King Cole Comfort Chunky. The hat with the long tassels (photo 2) was made with The Wave by We Are Knitters. You need a yarn that works with 8mm knitting needles.

Knitting needles required: 6 and 8mm needles - US size 10 and 11.

Knitting skills required: An easy and fast knitting project. Knitting pattern is suitable for beginners.

Knit flat or in the round: This baby hat is knit flat on straight needles.

Additional information: Knit the hat fairly loosely to ensure a good stretch. Very tight knitters should use a larger knitting needle size.
