Product Description
This is the pattern for a moose appliqué. I do have this pattern available for free on my website if you would prefer that option. The link is down below, but I’ve made it available for people to download as well for $1.
There is also a video tutorial for the pattern available on my YouTube channel at Crochet Moose Tutorial.
I’ve used 2 ply cotton and a 1mm crochet hook, but you can use different sizes depending on what you’re most comfortable with.
• Any thickness crochet cotton or yarn, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton colours (162) Black Coffee, (254) Moon Rock and (110) Black. • A crochet hook, I used a 1mm hook. • A darning needle to weave in ends. • Scissors. • Thread and needle to stitch the moose together. • A black bead for the eye if desired.
Crochet Moose Applique by Kerri's Crochet
What Is Being Made
This is a downloadable crochet pattern for creating a moose applique designed by Kerri's Crochet. The pattern produces a dimensional moose figure suitable for use as an applique on garments, blankets, or other crochet projects. The moose design is available in three finished size options, allowing crafters to customize the final dimensions based on their yarn weight and hook size choices.
Available Sizes
- Large Moose: 19cm wide x 18cm high (7.5" x 7") when made with 8 ply yarn and a 3mm crochet hook
- Medium Moose: 13cm wide x 12cm high (5.5" x 4.75") when made with 4 ply crochet cotton and a 1.5mm crochet hook
- Small Moose: 10cm wide x 9cm high (4.5" x 3.5") when made with 2 ply crochet cotton and a 1mm crochet hook
Crochet Techniques and Stitches Used
This intermediate-level crochet pattern employs fundamental crochet stitches to construct the moose applique. The stitches used include:
- Chain stitch (ch): The foundation stitch used to begin crochet work
- Slip stitch (sl st): Used to join rounds and create seamless transitions
- Double crochet (dc): A basic stitch that creates a tight, dense fabric
- Half treble crochet (htr): A medium-height stitch providing structure
- Treble crochet (tr): A taller stitch adding height and texture variation
- Double treble crochet (dtr): The tallest stitch used, creating extended elements
The pattern uses standard UK crochet terminology. Assembly involves stitching individual crocheted components together using a needle and thread to form the complete moose figure.
Materials Required
The pattern is flexible regarding yarn selection, accommodating multiple yarn weights to achieve different finished sizes:
- Yarn: Any thickness of crochet cotton or yarn works for this pattern. The designer used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat 2 ply crochet cotton in three colors: (162) Black Coffee, (254) Moon Rock, and (110) Black
- Crochet hooks: Hook size varies by desired finished size—1mm hook for small moose, 1.5mm hook for medium moose, or 3mm hook for large moose
- Finishing supplies: A darning needle for weaving in yarn ends, scissors, thread and needle for stitching components together, and optionally a black bead for the moose's eye
