What is Being Made

Miss Foxy is a knitted stuffed toy doll standing 34cm tall. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a charming fox character suitable for children or as a decorative handmade gift. The design combines multiple yarn colors to build the fox's body, legs, and finger details, resulting in a three-dimensional plush toy.

Techniques Used

This knitting pattern employs several fundamental and intermediate techniques to construct the toy. Color work is central to the design, with the knitter changing yarn colors at regular intervals—specifically every three rows—to create visual interest and define different sections of the fox. Increasing stitches using the kfb (knit front and back) method builds fabric width where needed, particularly in the foot and body sections. Decreasing stitches with k2tog (knit two together) is used to shape and taper sections, especially the fingers and limbs. Seaming and assembly bring the various knitted pieces together, with a tapestry needle used to join components and close gaps. The pattern also incorporates stuffing techniques typical of amigurumi-style toy construction, creating a soft, three-dimensional form.

Stitches Used

  • Stockinette stitch (St st) — the primary fabric throughout most of the garment, created by alternating knit rows on the right side and purl rows on the wrong side
  • Kfb (knit front and back) — an increase stitch that creates two stitches from one, used to expand sections like the foot and body
  • K2tog (knit two together) — a decrease stitch that combines two stitches into one, used to shape and taper the fingers and limbs
  • Cast on and cast off — foundation and finishing techniques that begin and complete the knitted pieces

Materials and Tools

Miss Foxy is worked in DK weight yarn, a medium-weight yarn ideal for creating detailed toys with good stitch definition. The pattern calls for three main yarn colors: 50g of caramel brown (MC1), 50g of beige (MC2), and 50g of brown (CC1). The yarn specified is 100% Merino wool with a yardage of 118 meters per 50g ball, offering softness and durability suitable for a child's toy. 3.5mm straight needles are used throughout the project, paired with the DK weight to create a fabric of appropriate density for stuffing. Additional supplies include a tapestry needle for seaming and assembly, toy stuffing to fill the completed pieces and create the three-dimensional form, and small scraps of black yarn for embellishing details such as the nose.
