Product Description
Miroulade is a simple but interesting to knit sweater for children and babies. The sizes offered include a lot of positive ease, so the sweater can be worn for a long time, despite the child’s growth spurts. Besides, the sleeves are pretty as they are and with the edge folded up… so don’t be shy to knit a size a little larger than what the child would normally wear.
The sweater is knitted top down, seamless. Garter stitch is used until the end of the buttonhole, then a few rows of motif are knitted to finish with stockinette stitch for the majority of the sweater. Short rows are added to the upper back for a better fit. As they are knitted in the garter stitch, they are very easy to make, as they do not need to “pick up the wraps”.

What Is Being Made
Miroulade is a seamless, top-down knit sweater designed for babies and children. The pattern offers multiple sizes with generous positive ease, allowing the garment to be worn comfortably through growth spurts. The design features practical and aesthetic sleeve options, as the sleeves look polished both unfolded and with the edge folded up, giving knitters flexibility in finishing.
Knitting Techniques
This intermediate-level sweater employs several key construction techniques:
- Top-down seamless construction: The sweater is knitted from the top down in one piece, eliminating the need for seaming and creating a smooth, professional finish.
- Short rows: Short rows are strategically added to the upper back for improved fit and shaping. Because these short rows are worked in garter stitch, they are simplified—knitters do not need to pick up wraps, making this technique more accessible for intermediate crafters.
- Stitch pattern progression: The sweater begins with garter stitch at the top, transitions through a motif section near the buttonhole area, and finishes with stockinette stitch for the majority of the body.
Stitches Used
The pattern incorporates garter stitch for the upper sections and short-row shaping, a motif stitch as a decorative transition element, and stockinette stitch as the primary stitch for the body of the sweater. This combination of stitches creates visual interest while maintaining a classic, wearable aesthetic.
Materials
Miroulade is designed to be worked in aran or worsted weight yarn on appropriate needles for the chosen yarn weight. The generous sizing and positive ease make this pattern suitable for extended wear, and the yarn weight selected will influence the drape and warmth of the finished garment.
