The Little Rocket Sweater is a charming knitted pullover designed for babies and toddlers, sized to fit from newborn through age 2-3 years. This beginner-friendly sweater features a classic construction with a back panel, front panel, and sleeves, finished with decorative button embellishments. The design includes both dark grey functional buttons and silver star buttons for a whimsical rocket-themed aesthetic.

Sizes and Finished Measurements

This pattern is available in five size options:

• 0-6 months: To fit 41cm (16.25in), finished width 48cm (19in), length 27cm (10.5in), sleeve length 14.5cm (5.75in)
• 6-12 months: To fit 46cm (18in), finished width 54cm (21.25in), length 29cm (11.5in), sleeve length 18cm (7in)

Knitting Techniques and Stitches

This beginner-level sweater employs fundamental knitting techniques suitable for those new to garment construction. The pattern utilizes garter stitch for the ribbed edgings and stockinette stitch for the main body fabric, creating a smooth, classic appearance. The construction method involves knitting flat pieces on straight needles before assembly, making it accessible for beginners who may not yet be comfortable with circular needle techniques. The pattern includes ribbing at the cuffs and hem to provide structure and prevent curling, while the main body sections are worked in simple knit and purl rows to create the characteristic stockinette texture.

Materials Required

Yarn: The pattern calls for Scheepjes Merino Soft DK, a blended yarn composed of 50% wool, 25% microfibre, and 25% acrylic. This DK weight yarn offers approximately 105 meters per 50-gram ball. Four yarn colors are used throughout the design:

• Yarn A (612 Vermeer): 2-4 balls depending on size
• Yarn B (603 Michelangelo): 1-2 balls depending on size
• Yarn C (623 Rothko): 1 ball for all sizes
• Yarn D (600 Malevich): 1 ball for all sizes

Needles and Notions: The pattern requires both straight needles in 3.25mm and 4mm sizes, as well as 3.25mm circular needles. Additional notions include a darning needle for weaving in ends and seaming, stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats, eight dark grey buttons approximately 1.5cm in diameter, and three silver star buttons approximately 2cm in diameter for decorative finishing.
