Product Description

Listopad is a lacy stole worked in a Tunisian crochet version of a well-known knit stitch pattern. The leaf stitch forms the main body of the stole and sections of the plain lacy chevron stitch edge it on both sides.

It is worked as one piece from one end to the other with no joining in the middle. Since it is worked in one direction, the two ends are not exactly the same, but similar enough to match and look symmetric.

Skill Level:

The pattern assumes knowledge of basic Tunisian crochet techniques, specifically how each row is worked as two separate passes, how to work the Tunisian simple stitch and full stitch increase, how to decrease stitches in the return pass, as well as how to bind off your work. Refer to my website for a glossary of Tunisian crochet stitches.

Listopad Stole by Yuliya Tkacheva

What is Being Made

The Listopad Stole is an elegant lacy shawl designed as a wearable accessory piece. This stole measures 18 inches (46cm) wide by 61½ inches (156cm) long, making it a generous wrap suitable for draping over shoulders or wearing as a decorative shawl. The design showcases an openwork lace pattern that creates visual interest while maintaining breathability, ideal for layering in various seasons.

Craft and Techniques

This project is worked entirely in crochet, specifically using Tunisian crochet techniques. Tunisian crochet is a hybrid technique that combines elements of both traditional crochet and knitting, creating a fabric with unique drape and texture. The Listopad Stole adapts a well-known knit stitch pattern into a Tunisian crochet version, allowing crocheters to achieve similar aesthetic results using a crochet hook instead of knitting needles.

The pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, indicating it assumes prior knowledge of basic Tunisian crochet techniques. Crafters should be comfortable with fundamental Tunisian stitches and methods before beginning this project.

Stitches and Stitch Pattern

The Listopad Stole features a lacy stitch pattern worked throughout the piece. The gauge for this pattern is 24 stitches and 13 rows in the stitch pattern equal 4 inches (10cm) by 4 inches (10cm). This gauge measurement is essential for achieving the correct finished dimensions. The pattern includes a detailed stitch guide provided within the instructions to help crafters understand and execute each stitch accurately.

Sections marked with asterisks within the pattern instructions indicate areas to be worked according to specific directional guidance, allowing for structured shaping and design development throughout the stole.

Materials Required

  • Yarn: Knit Picks Shadow in Autumn Heather colorway; 100% merino wool; 440 yards (402 meters) per 50-gram skein; 3 skeins required, totaling approximately 1320 yards (1206 meters) of lace-weight yarn
  • Hook: Tunisian crochet hook in size H/8 (5mm)
  • Notions: Yarn needle for weaving in ends

The merino wool fiber provides excellent drape and elasticity, making it well-suited for lace stole construction. Lace-weight yarn creates the delicate, openwork aesthetic characteristic of this design. Crafters may substitute alternative lace-weight yarns of similar yardage, though yardage requirements and finished dimensions may vary based on yarn choice and individual gauge.
