Product Description
Hand-designed letter C dishcloth pattern. All of my patterns are free-drawn and converted to a pattern on knitting graph paper. I never use knitting pattern creation software to design my patterns. One skein of sugar n cream yarn on size 4 (US) needles is used to create each dishcloth.
Letter C Dishcloth by Nikki's Needles
What Is Being Made
The Letter C Dishcloth is an original knitting pattern designed by Nikki's Needles that creates a functional kitchen textile featuring the letter "C" as a decorative element. This dishcloth measures approximately 7.5 inches by 9 inches when finished, making it a practical size for everyday kitchen use. The pattern is suitable for crafters of all experience levels, particularly those new to knitting.
Craft and Techniques
This project uses knitting as the primary craft method. The pattern employs fundamental knitting techniques that make it accessible to beginners while still producing a visually interesting finished piece. The design incorporates a chart-based approach, allowing knitters to follow a visual guide to create the letter C pattern within the fabric.
Stitches Used
The Letter C Dishcloth utilizes basic knitting stitches appropriate for beginner-level projects:
- Knit stitch (K) – the fundamental stitch that forms the foundation of the fabric
- Purl stitch (P) – used in combination with knit stitches to create texture and pattern definition
- Stockinette stitch (St st) – created by alternating knit and purl rows, this stitch forms the main body of the dishcloth and creates a smooth, classic fabric appearance
The pattern uses a chart system for rows 6 through 45, which guides the placement of stitches to form the letter C design while maintaining stockinette stitch borders on all sides for structure and stability.
Materials
This project requires minimal materials, making it an economical choice for knitters:
- Yarn: Sugar 'N Cream cotton yarn (one skein required) – a worsted weight yarn that provides durability and absorbency ideal for dishcloths
- Needles: US size 4 (3.5mm) needles for working with the worsted weight yarn
The pattern begins with casting on 40 stitches and works through 45 rows total, creating a finished textile that combines functionality with decorative lettering suitable for kitchen use or as a handmade gift.
