Product Description
Lá le Pádraig is a simple cowl pattern incorporating basic stranded colour work. It is knit in the round and uses only knit and purl stitches. It is made from Studio Donegal, 100 per cent pure new wool Donegal Aran Tweed, bought from This is Knit in Dublin. I have included three sizes, to fit child or adult (pictured) and a long version which can be worn long or doubled up for a warmer cosier knit.

What is Being Made
La Le Pádraig is a festive knitted cowl pattern inspired by St Patrick's Day. This downloadable knitting pattern offers versatility with three distinct size options: a Child size measuring 56cm in diameter, an Adult Short version at 68cm in diameter, and an Adult Long version at 136cm in diameter. All versions share a consistent height of 16cm, making this design adaptable for different wearers and styling preferences. The Adult Long version can be worn extended or doubled up for enhanced warmth and coziness.
Techniques and Skills
La Le Pádraig incorporates fundamental techniques suitable for knitters progressing from beginner to intermediate level. The pattern requires approximately 3 to 8 hours of knitting time to complete, depending on size and individual pace.
- Knitting in the round: The cowl is constructed using circular knitting methods, creating a seamless tubular fabric
- Simple stranded colour work: A basic form of colourwork that introduces multiple yarn colours within the same row, creating patterned designs without complex techniques
- Three colour cast on: A specialized cast-on method that incorporates three different yarn colours at the foundation edge, establishing the colourwork foundation
Stitches Used
The pattern employs only fundamental stitches, keeping the construction straightforward and accessible. Knit and purl stitches form the entire fabric, with the visual interest derived from the stranded colourwork rather than stitch complexity.
