Koffie Socks by thepetiteknitter

What Is Being Made

Koffie is a downloadable knitting pattern for a pair of socks designed by thepetiteknitter. This pattern includes sizing options for both children and adults, making it a versatile project for knitters of various skill levels. The socks are constructed to be worn with negative ease for a secure, comfortable fit that prevents slipping during wear.

Craft and Primary Technique

These socks are created using the knitting craft, worked from top-down and in the round. This construction method allows for seamless sock creation and provides flexibility in adjusting sock height and length to suit individual preferences. The top-down approach also makes it easier to try on the socks as you work and adjust the fit before completing the project.

Stitches and Techniques Used

  • Colourwork motif — The socks feature patterned colourwork throughout the design, adding visual interest and texture to the finished garment
  • Afterthought heel technique — The heels are constructed using this method, which allows for easy heel replacement and repair in the future
  • Kitchener stitch — The final heel and toe stitches are grafted together using this seamless grafting technique, creating a smooth, professional finish with no visible seams

Sizing and Fit Details

The Koffie pattern accommodates both children and adult sizes with specific negative ease measurements for optimal comfort. Children's sizes feature a finished foot circumference approximately 1.3cm (½") smaller than actual foot circumference, while adult sizes have a finished foot circumference approximately 2.5cm (1") smaller than actual foot circumference. Similarly, sock length is designed 0.6cm (¼") shorter for children and 1.3cm (½") shorter for adults compared to actual foot length. The pattern encourages customization, allowing knitters to adjust sock height and length as needed for the best personal fit.

Materials

The Koffie socks are designed to be knitted with sport weight yarn and appropriate needles for this yarn weight. Knitters will also need a basic set of knitting tools including needles suitable for working in the round and a tapestry needle for grafting stitches at the heel and toe.

Difficulty Level

This pattern is rated as beginner friendly, making it an excellent choice for knitters new to sock construction. Despite the inclusion of colourwork and advanced finishing techniques like Kitchener stitch grafting, the pattern is designed to be accessible to those just starting their sock-knitting journey.
