Two years ago I knit Keepsake Cat ornaments for a holiday giving tree at a local pet shop: "Buy a $20 gift card for South County Cats and take me home." Last year two more shops joined in, a win/win for both them and the nonprofit.
With next Christmas in mind, I wanted to include a variety of critters - cats, dogs, bunnies, rodents, bears and even kids. Since I'm knitting in bulk, several things were important in designing the pattern. I wanted a basic template to create numerous variations, I planned to use timesaving techniques to eliminate as many seams as possible, & I needed a worsted weight yarn ornament that would hang nicely on a Christmas tree. "Keepsake Pets" is the result.
THIS LARGE PATTERN IS WRITTEN FOR MAGIC LOOP. I also recommend a sock-toe cast-on (Turkish CO or Judy's Magic CO) & Kitchener stitch, though more familiar techniques can be substituted for those. It includes detailed written instructions, plus lots of charts for various animals & adorable sweater designs.
