Product Description
Wear it as you like it! This lightweight sweater does not have a special front and back - you can turn it to your own desire. Karla is worked from top down in one piece. It’s special cut results from the increase method that is nearly the same as for a raglan, but they take place before and after the pattern insertions. There is a ribbing insertion at the front part and a lace insertion at the back part. But as already mentioned: Feel free to turn it around!

Karla Reversible Sweater by Rita Maassen
What Is Being Made
Karla is a reversible sweater design created by Rita Maassen, a knitwear designer. This pullover-style sweater is engineered to be worn on either side, offering versatility and two distinct looks from a single garment. The pattern is available in six sizes ranging from XS to XXL, with finished bust circumferences from 35 inches (89 cm) to 53 inches (134 cm). The sweater is designed to be worn with 2 to 3 inches of positive ease at the bust, providing comfortable room for movement while maintaining a flattering silhouette.
Craft and Primary Technique
This is a knitting project suitable for knitters with intermediate skill level. The reversible construction requires thoughtful planning and execution to ensure both sides of the sweater are equally attractive and functional. Knitters working on this design will need to understand how to manage yarn floats, color changes, or stitch patterns that create the reversible effect, depending on the specific techniques employed in the pattern instructions.
Stitches and Construction Methods
While the PDF content provided does not detail the specific stitches used in Karla, the reversible nature of this sweater suggests the use of techniques such as two-sided knitting, double-faced fabric, or carefully planned colorwork that maintains visual interest and structural integrity on both the front and back of the finished garment. The pattern includes detailed schematic drawings at the end of the instructions to guide knitters through the construction process and help them understand the precise measurements for each size.
Materials: Yarn and Needles
Karla is designed to be knitted with 3-ply yarn, which offers a balance of weight and drape suitable for creating a wearable sweater with good stitch definition. The pattern will specify the required yardage and recommended needle size in the full instructions. Knitters should refer to the complete pattern document for specific yarn fiber content recommendations and needle gauge information to ensure proper fit and fabric characteristics.
