Product Description

Janie and Jamie are Jingle Bunnies that are knit from the feet up all in one piece. The arms with raglan shaping as you go and the head is created using the same stitches you used for the body. Even the ears are knit directly onto the head by picking up stitches on the crown of the head and working in moss stitch. A lining for the ears is optional but does give the ears body and it is added in the same manner. Worked in Pattons Grace cotton yarn to enable washing this bunny encases a jingle bell ball that makes it a rattle for the wee ones. Worked in one piece with one back seam. Easy and quick knit.

Jingle Bunny Buddies Knitting Pattern

Product Overview

Jingle Bunny Buddies is an original knitting pattern designed by Wendy Siladji of Tat'sgran's Treasures. This downloadable PDF pattern provides instructions for creating two charming toy bunnies named Janie and Jamie, each standing 12 inches tall with a 4.5-inch chest width when sitting at 7.5 inches in height. These whimsical stuffed animals are perfect for craft makers seeking a beginner-friendly knitting project with playful interactive elements.

What Is Being Made

The Jingle Bunny Buddies pattern creates a pair of soft, huggable toy bunnies suitable for children and decorative purposes. Each bunny features a built-in jingle bell element housed within a plastic cat ball toy, creating an engaging sensory toy with sound. The finished bunnies are designed to sit upright and measure approximately 12 inches in height, making them an ideal size for small hands or display.

Craft and Techniques

This pattern utilizes knitting as the primary craft technique. The beginner difficulty level makes this project accessible to knitters new to toy construction. The pattern incorporates fundamental knitting techniques suitable for creating three-dimensional stuffed animals. Crafters will work with basic shaping methods to form the bunny body, limbs, and head structure through strategic increases and decreases in stitching.

Stitches and Construction Methods

While specific stitch names are not detailed in the provided pattern excerpt, the construction utilizes standard knitting stitches appropriate for beginner-level toy making. The pattern employs stitch markers to track pattern progression and stitch holders to manage stitches during construction of different bunny components. A tapestry needle is essential for seaming pieces together and weaving in yarn ends, which is a critical finishing technique for creating a polished stuffed animal.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

The Jingle Bunny Buddies pattern calls for DK weight yarn, a medium-light yarn weight that provides excellent stitch definition and drape suitable for toy making. Knitters will use 3mm knitting needles, which is the standard needle size for DK weight yarn and allows for tight, even stitching in toy construction.

Additional materials required include:

  • Plastic cat ball toys with jingle bells (available at dollar stores, pet departments in grocery stores, or pet supply retailers; typically sold in sets of 5-6)
  • 12mm safety eyes (optional; embroidered eyes recommended for babies or small children)
  • 25mm safety nose (optional)
  • Tapestry needle for assembly and finishing
  • Stitch markers and stitch holders for pattern management

Design Features and Customization

The pattern offers flexibility for different age groups and safety considerations. Crafters can choose between safety eyes and noses for older children or embroider facial features for babies and very young children, ensuring the finished toy meets appropriate safety standards. The inclusion of jingle bells adds an interactive, sensory element that engages children through sound and movement.
