Product Description

This is a pattern for an intricate brioche and cabled cowl. The finished cowl measures 13 1/2 inches X 62 inches The cowl can be worn long or doubled as seen in some of the pictures. It can drape over your shoulders in a way that won’t fall off. Or it can be doubled for extra warmth in the winter or early spring. Jaffa Brioche Cabled Cowl by Linda Lehman

What Is Being Made

The Jaffa Brioche Cabled Cowl is a wearable neck accessory designed by Linda Lehman. This cowl combines brioche knitting with cable techniques to create a distinctive, textured garment suitable for fall and winter wear. The finished piece offers warmth and visual interest through its unique construction method.

Brioche Knitting Technique

This cowl showcases brioche knitting, a technique developed in the Middle East that produces distinctive visual and tactile qualities. Brioche knitting creates fabric that appears three-dimensional despite being worked flat or in the round. The method produces exceptionally fluffy and soft fabric with notable depth and dimension. When combined with cable techniques, brioche knitting creates cables with a unique appearance that reflects the brioche construction method, distinguishing them from cables made using traditional knitting approaches.

Stitches and Techniques Used

  • Brioche Stitch: The foundation technique that gives the cowl its characteristic softness and dimensional appearance
  • Cable Stitches: Integrated throughout the design using brioche methodology for distinctive cable definition
  • Knit and Purl Stitches: Basic stitches worked in combination with brioche techniques
  • Yarn Overs (YOs): Incorporated as part of the brioche knitting structure
