Product Description
Izzy may be an Ice Dragon at heart but her heart is far from cold as Ice. Her eyes belie her kindness and if anybody ever needed a very special friend to be there for cuddles and giggles then Izzy is the one. If you made her in warmer tones she might just thaw out even more! Using light worsted weight (DK/8 ply) yarn and a 3 mm hook, Drake measures approx. 9" (22 cm) tall. Suggested safety eye size - 15 mm The smaller dragon featured is made with a 1.5 mm hook, 2 ply crochet thread and 9 mm safety eyes. This pattern is written in American crochet terminology and includes a handy stitch conversion chart so you can translate to British crochet terms should you wish to.
Izzy the Ice Dragon Crochet Amigurumi Pattern
What is Being Made
Izzy the Ice Dragon is a crocheted amigurumi toy designed by Moji-Moji Design. This downloadable PDF pattern provides instructions for creating a three-dimensional stuffed dragon character using crochet techniques. The finished project is suitable for crafters seeking an intermediate-level challenge in amigurumi construction.
Craft and Primary Technique
This pattern is created using crochet as both the primary and sole craft method. The design utilizes fundamental amigurumi construction principles, which involve crocheting in continuous rounds to build dimensional forms that are subsequently stuffed and shaped into recognizable characters.
Stitches Used
The Izzy the Ice Dragon pattern employs standard crochet stitches written in US crochet terminology. Key stitches referenced in the pattern include:
- Chain stitch (ch) — the foundation stitch for creating the base of the project
- Slip stitch (slst) — used to join rounds and create seamless transitions
- Single crochet (sc) — the primary stitch for building amigurumi fabric with tight, dense stitching
- Half double crochet (hdc) — employed for varied texture and structure
- Double crochet (dc) — used to create taller stitches where needed
- Invisible decrease (invdec) — a special technique for seamlessly decreasing stitches while maintaining clean edges on the finished toy
The pattern also uses standard crochet abbreviations and notational conventions, including round brackets to indicate stitch groups or completion counts, and square brackets to denote repeated stitch sequences.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
Izzy the Ice Dragon is designed to be worked with DK weight yarn, a medium-weight yarn that provides an appropriate thickness for creating well-defined amigurumi features. The pattern is formatted as a downloadable PDF, allowing crafters to access detailed instructions and measurements in centimeters, grams, and millimeters for precise project planning.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters who have mastered basic stitches and simple amigurumi projects but are ready to tackle more complex character construction and shaping techniques.
