Product Description
The pattern comes with written knitting instructions for 4ply sweater 0 - 5 years and the Name chart pictured. Moniker name sweaters make great gifts for newborns. You can knit the back and sleeves before baby is born and finish the front once the name has been announced. The sweater can then be kept as a keepsake, hung in the child’s room, on the door or used to dress a toy. Not the name you wanted? No problem, leave a request on my site!
This chart can be used with any INSTARSIA pattern. All instarsia charts now have a colour count on them telling you how many squares of each colour make up the chart. This is helpful info if you want to uses the chart to make pixel crochet blankets, bead art or even quilting.
Intarsia Elliot Moniker Chart Children's Sweater
What is Being Made
This is a children's sweater pattern featuring intarsia colorwork design. The garment is constructed as a classic pullover with separate front and back pieces, designed to showcase a personalized moniker or name chart using the intarsia technique. The sweater includes ribbed cuffs and waistband for a fitted finish.
Craft and Primary Technique
This is a knitting project classified as intermediate difficulty. The primary construction method is intarsia colorwork, which allows for the incorporation of a custom moniker or name chart into the sweater design. Intarsia knitting involves using separate lengths of yarn for different colored sections, creating a seamless, pictorial effect that is ideal for personalized text or motifs on garments.
Stitches and Stitch Techniques Used
- Stockinette Stitch (st-st) – Used throughout the main body of both the back and front pieces, creating a smooth, flat fabric ideal for displaying intarsia colorwork
- 2x2 Ribbing (2x2 rib) – Applied at the cuffs and waistband using a knit 2, purl 2 repeat pattern to create elasticity and structure
- Decreases – Including p2tog (purl 2 together) decreases used for shaping armholes and waist shaping
- Stitch Holder Technique – Used to hold stitches in reserve during construction, particularly for neckline and shoulder shaping
Materials and Yarn Specifications
This pattern is designed for 4-ply yarn weight, which provides excellent stitch definition ideal for displaying intarsia colorwork details. The pattern accommodates multiple sizes with varying yardage requirements based on the specified tension and yarn used. Construction requires 2¾mm needles for the main stockinette stitch sections and 3¼mm needles for the ribbed edgings, allowing for proper gauge and fabric texture transitions between ribbed and stockinette sections.
Pattern Construction Details
The sweater is worked in pieces with the back and front constructed separately before assembly. The back piece begins with a cast-on of 70 stitches, followed by ribbed edging worked over multiple rows. The pattern then transitions to stockinette stitch for the main body, with armhole shaping achieved through strategic decreases at row edges. The front piece follows a similar construction method, with the intarsia moniker chart integrated into the stockinette stitch section. Armhole shaping is consistent across front and back pieces, and the pattern includes detailed row counts for different size options, ensuring proper proportions across the size range.
