Hint of Autumn is a shawl-cowl hybrid design that combines the elegant aesthetic of a draped kerchief-style shawl with the practical convenience of a cowl. The design is specifically crafted to provide warmth during the first chilly autumn breezes while maintaining a sophisticated, layered appearance around the neck and shoulders.

Craft and Techniques

This knitting project is designed for intermediate-level knitters and incorporates several essential knitting techniques. The construction requires proficiency in increasing and decreasing to shape the garment, yarn overs for decorative stitch patterning, and working in the round using circular needles. These combined techniques create the distinctive shawl-cowl silhouette that distinguishes this design from traditional cowls or shawls.

Yarn and Materials

Essential tools include US 5/3.75mm circular needles measuring 24 inches, or the size needed to achieve proper gauge. Additional supplies include stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats and a tapestry needle for weaving in yarn ends.

Gauge and Sizing

The project is worked at a gauge of 22 stitches in 4 inches of gently blocked stockinette stitch, measured in both flat and circular knitting.
