Product Description
Haar, the grey mist that comes off the North Sea on sunny days, and that is exactly what this beautiful soft grey colour says to me. Perfect for misty mornings in the early spring when there’s still a bit of a nip in the air. Haar is a textured shawl and companion to Ceò. With a really easy repeat it’s perfect relaxing knitting and will fly off your needles. The Picot Bind-Off adds a final feminine flourish and has been carefully designed to extend the mesh lace right to the edge of the shawl.
The pattern is fully written and charted so however you like to read your patterns, you’re covered! The pattern has been tech edited and test knitted. There’s a screenshot of the pattern and a list of the stitches used at the bottom of the photos. The pattern uses a garter tab cast on, simple increases/decreases, and slipped stitches.
Haar Knitted Shawl by Liz Corke
What is Being Made
Haar is a textured knitted shawl designed by Liz Corke, inspired by the grey mist that rolls off the North Sea on sunny days. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a soft grey shawl with a finished wingspan of 135 cm (53 inches) and depth of 56 cm (22 inches). The shawl is a companion piece to the designer's Ceò pattern and is ideal for knitters seeking a relaxing project with an easy-to-follow repeat that works up quickly.
Techniques and Construction
Haar features a textured construction with mesh lace elements that extend throughout the design. The shawl incorporates a Picot Bind-Off technique at the edges, which has been carefully designed to extend the mesh lace right to the perimeter of the finished shawl, adding a feminine finishing detail. The straightforward repeat pattern makes this an accessible intermediate project that allows knitters to relax into the rhythm of the work without complex stitch sequences.
Stitches Used
The primary stitch pattern employed in Haar is a Speckled Rib, which creates the textured appearance characteristic of this shawl design. The pattern also incorporates mesh lace elements that feature throughout the shawl and extend to the edges via the Picot Bind-Off finishing technique.
