Graduation Doll by Flo's Crafty Crochet
What is Being Made
The Graduation Doll is a crocheted amigurumi-style doll designed by Fiona Campbell of Flo's Crafty Crochet. This finished doll project is suitable for crafters looking to create a decorative or gift-worthy piece celebrating graduation milestones. The pattern produces a three-dimensional doll figure worked in the round using fundamental crochet construction methods.
Craft and Primary Technique
This project uses crochet as its primary construction method. The doll is created through amigurumi techniques, which involve working in continuous rounds to build stuffed, sculptural forms. This approach allows crafters to shape the doll's body, head, and other components into a cohesive finished piece.
Crochet Stitches Used
The Graduation Doll pattern incorporates a variety of essential crochet stitches to create texture and structure:
- Chain (CH) – Used for foundation and connecting elements
- Single Crochet (SC) – Primary stitch for building dense, structured fabric
- Double Crochet (DC) – Creates taller stitches for varied texture
- Half Double Crochet (HDC) – Medium-height stitch for transitional sections
- Treble Crochet (TR) – Tall stitch option for specific design elements
- Slip Stitch (Sl st) – Used for joining rounds and finishing seams
- Magic Ring (MR) – Alternative method for starting projects in the round
- Increase (Inc) – Adds stitches to expand sections of the doll
- Decrease (Dec) – Reduces stitches to shape and taper the form
Materials and Tools
The Graduation Doll pattern calls for DK weight yarn, a lightweight yarn ideal for creating detailed amigurumi with fine stitch definition. A 3mm crochet hook is specified for working with this yarn weight, ensuring appropriate gauge and fabric density. Crafters will also need a small piece of additional material, likely for stuffing the doll to create its three-dimensional shape.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle more complex shaping techniques. The combination of various stitch types, increases, decreases, and three-dimensional construction requires solid understanding of basic crochet fundamentals and comfort with reading pattern abbreviations and following multi-step instructions.
Pattern Format
The Graduation Doll pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF, allowing crafters to access instructions digitally and reference them while working on their project.
